Regnal Media believes the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey to be part of our core infrastructure. Each one of these habits have been incorporated into the beliefs of our company and are a key part of our employee’s work and personal ethics.
These 7 Habits of Highly Effective People are:
Be Proactive, Not Reactive
“Even if my complaining were completely objective, it doesn’t help me; so i am going to focus on what I can control.”
You happen to the world, the world does not happen to you. When you give up the idea that things happen to you and start to believe that you have the power to change the situations occurring around you, your life WILL change. It is very important to always work towards what you want instead of waiting for them to fall in your lap.
Begin With the End In Mind
“Are you doing the things in your life which are aligned with what you want to be able to say?”
Whatever you want to say about yourself, are your actions aligned with that? If the actions you make on a daily basis are not geared towards the person you aim to be, you will never become that person. You must make your actions correspond with the goals that you have in order to accomplish those goals.
Put First Things First
“There is a horrible disconnect between what we say and how we actually allocate our time.”
If you want to get in shape, but spend time watching TV to relax instead of preparing food or going to the gym, you will never get in shape. If you spend time complaining about a job you don’t like instead of applying for a new one, you will never get a new job. It’s important to know what you want and to make sure your actions work towards those. There is no better time than now to start reaching your goals. You can always make more money, you can never make more time.
“Stop thinking of everything as a zero-sum game, for you to win another person does not have to lose.”
No one cares how much harder you worked than someone else who is more successful. One of the biggest deterrents of being successful is thinking that your competitors need to fail in order for you to succeed. The more you uplift your competitors the more they will uplift you. People will not believe in you if you don’t believe in yourself. It’s more important to have value in yourself than it is to diminish the value of someone else.
Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
“Does it offer value to someone else? And why are you doing it if it’s only for personal gain?”
It is more important to listen than it is to speak. No matter what you do, people will not listen to you if you do not listen to them. You can learn so much about others if you just close your mouth and open your ears. Instead of listening to speak, listen to understand and then respond accurately to what you have heard. There is no better way to add value to someone than to actually comprehend what they are telling you and respond to it honestly.
“Synergy, the whole is greater than the sum of it’s parts.”
Working together brings better results than working separately. When you combine minds, the possibilities of results are endless. Keeping an open mind and allowing input from others opens the door for more creativity and problem solving.
Sharpen the Saw
“If you sharpen the saw, you will be able to cut it down faster. But sharpening the saw is going to take time.”
If you spend time everyday working towards bettering yourself, the overall time it takes to reach your goal will shorten. It may seem like it would take longer, but the more you learn every day the quicker your skill set will grow. If you go to the gym or read a book for thirty minutes a day, you will slowly developed a skillset that may have taken hours to gain had you done it in one sitting. Dedicating a little bit of time each day to grow will give you hours of self work over time.
Together, the 7 habits of highly effective people will shape you to be the best version of yourself. Here at Regnal Media, we practice these seven habits in our professional, personal, and sales lives each and everyday. The seven habits of highly effective people are what help us to be the best versions of ourselves.
